The legal publisher recently announced the company’s annual list of honorees, which recognizes pioneers in the areas of law, justice, artificial intelligence, and legal data visualization tools. Michelle Suskauer, partner at Dimond Kaplan & Rothstein, P.A. and President of The Florida Bar, is an AV-Preeminent criminal defense attorney with more than 25 years of criminal trial experience. She has participated in hundreds of criminal defense trials, both jury and non-jury, and is well known by judges, prosecutors, law enforcement and, peers in her field.
She is the first former public defender to be elected as President of The Florida Bar. In her role as President, she is focusing on, among other things, criminal justice reform, inclusiveness and the elimination of gender bias in the hiring and promotion of women lawyers, destigmatizing mental health, and wellness, and providing practical resources for small and solo firms.
This year Michelle is spearheading the first statewide Criminal Justice Summit with lawyers and elected officials to address the state’s high incarceration rate and help bring meaningful reform. She also is working with the Bar’s Gender Bias Special Committee to eliminate bias against women in the legal profession.
As part of an initiative to help the state’s solo and small firm lawyers, she is rolling out LegalFuel, which will provide free resources to help solo and small firms increase efficiency and profitability. In Florida, solo and small firm lawyers make up 75% of attorneys in the state.
