In a letter to investors on Valentine’s Day investors were dismayed to learn that GWG Holdings had halted interest payments. In a statement to investors dated February 14, the firm stated that while it is “identifying and reviewing restructuring options,” monthly interest, maturity payments, dividends, and redemptions are all on hold. According to the firm, the procedure might take another 3-4 weeks or beyond, and it will notify investors “if and when” the company can resume cash payouts.
According to recent SEC filings on January 18, 2022, GWG failed to make the January 15, 2022 interest payment of about $10.35 million and principal payment of roughly $3.25 million on its L Bonds. According to the petition, if the firm does not make the payments within the next 30 days, it will default.
